Preventive Dentistry -
The cornerstone of our practice philosophy at Montevideo Family Dentistry is preventive dental care....
The greatest service we can provide to you is our commitment to preventive dental care. A good preventive dental program starts with routine dental visits including cleanings and examinations. At certain times radiographs (X-rays) will be made of your teeth to survey certain areas of your mouth and help the dentist recognize potentially harmful conditions. We will also provide information regarding proper home care including brushing and flossing technique, toothpastes, mouthwashes, and the proper fluoride regimen. During the doctor’s examination, while working with the hygienist and yourself, information will be gathered regarding teeth and gum conditions, oral cancer screening, and a plan will be made individually for you. A good preventive plan varies by individual and is the key to healthy long term oral health.

Tooth Fillings - There are many materials and methods used to restore minimally diseased teeth. At our clinic, we use composite resins (“white fillings”) and amalgam (“silver fillings”). The decision of the type of fillings to be used often relies on the clinical situation, judgment of the dentist, and patients’ goals....
---- Composite Resin Restoration -- “White Fillings”:

There are two major advantages when using composite fillings. First, the color matches the natural tooth to allow a desirable cosmetic result. Secondly, when the decay is removed from the tooth we use a bonding adhesive that is chemically cured with light to result in a superior seal to the tooth. This allows the dentist to remove a minimal amount of tooth structure. The key to good composite restorations is technique. The dentist and assistant use various techniques to isolate the tooth from saliva which has the potential to interfere with the adhesive bond.

---- Amalgam Restoration -- “Silver Fillings”:

Amalgam restorations have been a predictable and economical way to restore decayed teeth in dentistry for well over 100 years. Amalgam fillings are sometimes used in the molars to restore minimally and moderately decayed teeth due to their strength and longevity. In recent years there have been questions raised about potential adverse health consequences using dental amalgam due to the mercury content. Science still demonstrates dental amalgam as a safe and dependable restoration.

We direct you for further information provided by the ADA's Website concerning the safety of dental amalgam.

--- Longevity-- :
Fillings may eventually have to be replaced in a tooth’s lifetime. A common reason for failure is just - Time. It is impossible to answer the question of “how long will it last”. Everyone is an individual with different diets, grinding patterns, home care regimens and those are just a few of the reasons why we don’t have an answer to the longevity question.....

Crowns -
If you’re self-conscious about your smile due to cracked, broken, decayed, or worn
teeth, we can bring back your healthy,
natural-looking smile with dental crowns....
Designed to fit and function as normal teeth, crowns protect your teeth from further damage. We use precious metal, porcelain fused to metal, and all-porcelain crowns with excellent success; however, for maximum beauty we often recommend all-ceramic crowns because of the precise color matching systems available.
We can typically design and fit your crowns in just a couple of short appointments. Once they are permanently placed, caring for them is no different than proper hygiene for your other teeth: twice-daily brushing and daily flossing to protect the crown tooth interface from bacterial growth, and regular visits to our office for professional cleanings.

Veneers -
Many patients have chosen the
benefits of dental veneers. Unlike a crown….
Unlike a crown which covers the entire tooth, a veneer is a custom fabricated thin covering that is bonded over the visible part of the tooth. Veneers allow the patient and dentist to improve a discolored, uneven, and poorly spaced smile. We apply the veneers in a simple comfortable procedure that just takes a few visits.

Teeth Whitening -
Teeth whitening is a procedure that lightens teeth and helps to remove stains and
discoloration. Whitening is among the most
popular cosmetic dental procedures because
it can improve the appearance of your teeth....
If you’re interested in having your smile lightened, we recommend that you first talk with us regarding your specific goals, so that we can evaluate how teeth whitening might impact your particular situation. Some people are simply better candidates than others for a successful whitening treatment. For example, if your teeth are darkened to a yellow, brown or orange tinge due to age, coffee, tea, or smoking, chances are very good that teeth whitening will bring satisfactory results. However, if your teeth are a dark gray tone from fluorosis, smoking or tetracycline use, whitening results may be a bit less dramatic; plus, whitening does not lighten artificial materials such as resins, silicates or porcelains. Finally, teeth with periodontal disease or worn enamel typically do not respond well to whitening. In any case, after whitening, your new, brighter smile will be preserved the longest if you’re willing to forgo such habits as smoking, drinking coffee and drinking tea. INFO LINK

Missing a tooth? -
Unfortunately a tooth may have to be removed for various reasons. Some reasons include: severe decay, periodontitis, abscess, or fracture.

The good news is that dentistry has many
new and traditional ways to restore that
missing tooth......
Dental Implants -
A dental implant is one option for replacing a tooth. Implants are manufactured devices that are placed surgically in the upper or lower jaw, where they function as anchors for replacement teeth. Implants are made of titanium and other materials that are compatible with the human body. An implant looks and feels like a natural tooth. It fits securely when you chew and speak. A single-tooth implant is a free-standing unit and does not involve treatment to the adjacent teeth. With a dental implant, the surrounding teeth can remain untouched if they are healthy, and their strength and integrity may be maintained. The implant can stabilize your bite and help prevent problems with the jaw.

Invisalign -
Teeth that are crowded or too widely spaced can create unhealthy conditions, including swollen gums, redness and pocketing, all of which are signs of periodontal disease.
As Invisalign invisibly straightens your teeth, it
can also do great things for the health of your mouth.....
Invisalign treatment will consist of a series of aligners that you change about every two weeks. Each aligner is individually manufactured to gradually shift your teeth into place. And since your Invisalign system is custom-made for your teeth and your teeth only, with a plan devised by you and your dentist, you know you'll end up with a smile that truly fits.
The convenience and ease of use of the Invisalign system have made it the choice of over half a million people. In fact, Invisalign has been effective in giving hundreds of thousands of people amazing new smiles.

• Won't disrupt your lifestyle
No metal wires or bands to irritate your mouth, and best of all, most people won't notice you're in treatment. Invisalign, the clear alternative to braces, has been chosen by people who want beautiful smiles.
